  1. I thought that there was an Ikea across the parking lot from the Mall of America in Bloomington, MN

  2. at one point i looked at data like this, but in relation to voting habits. in 2004, if memory serves me, there were NO ikeas in counties that voted GOP, and only 3 ikeas in red states.

    good mapage

  3. I just came over here (from my RSS reader) to say that MN *does* have an Ikea, but I see several alert readers beat me to the punch. And, yes, it’s next to the MoA.

  4. Hee hee – looks like I am not alone in wanting to shout out that we have an IKEA here in the Twin Cities (MN)!

  5. When I lived in Cleveland, I had to drive to Canton, Michigan to get my end table and meatballs combo meal. Oh the humanity!

  6. Crap. I, too, was going to point out the Ikea just a hop, skip, and a jump over in Bloomington, MN.

  7. Minnesotans appear to be fiercely proud of their Ikea. I wonder if there is some comparable Swedish territory whose tourist brochures proudly trumpet the local Bed, Bath, and Beyond.

  8. Where does the data come from ?
I would be interested if you do the same with europe…

  9. Sorry about that. It’s been amended.

Population data is from Wikipedia and IKEA locations are from the IKEA website.

  10. There’s an Ikea in Round Rock, which is about 15 minutes from Austin and I’m pretty sure it’s included in the Greater Austin Metropolitan Area. Sorry to make a fuss but everyone got super excited when they built it a couple of years ago. Beautiful maps as usual.

  11. San Antonio is also bereft of a Fry’s Electronics, as well! Oh, woe is South Texas.

  12. Actually there is an ikea in Las Vegas now but I’ll give you credit still considering it JUST opened

Police had to direct traffic into the Ikea parking lot on Memorial day; it was Wet n’ Wild busy.
